Our speaker, Roger Bird, is from The Bridge in Allegan, a church that began 9 years ago. Their main goal was to be a missional church, but found that they were burning out fast. They needed a tool to disciple people. That’s where they found the 3DM Learning Circle.
Here’s how it works.
So you’re going through life, pretty fast, you’re hitting road marks and then you come to a moment. Mark 1:15 describes one such moment, ‘“The time has come,” he [Jesus] said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”’ In this verse, the term for time is not kronos but kairos, a moment of decision and action, a moment when God is trying to break into our lives.
To process these moments, you can repent and believe. Here the word “repent” is talking about inward change – changing how you think – and “believe” is talking about outward change – changing how you act.
Here are the steps you can take when you reach one of these kairos moments.
Repent
- Observe what happened
- Reflect with someone
- Discuss it with someone
- Ask: What is God saying to me?
Believe
- Then ask: What am I going to do about it?
- Make a plan
- Set up accountability
- Act on what you plan on doing
And that leads you in the learning circle. And when the trajectory changes, that’s what is called transformation.
